Remote Key Fob Repair
Modern vehicles are equipped with remote controls that can be used to lock, unlock, or start the vehicle. As with any high-tech piece equipment, there are problems.
These are usually very easy to repair. It's as simple as resetting the device and you should be able to do by following the instructions for resetting in the manual of your owner.
Check the Battery
The battery in the key fob powers the remote control function. The battery is a small component that is inexpensive and needs to be replaced regularly to ensure the functionality of the fob. However, in addition to the battery, there could be other reasons your fob might not be functioning properly. These issues could include physical damage, exposure to water, or internal component failure. Regardless of the cause, if your key fob isn't responding it's time to replace its battery.
First, make sure you have the correct size battery. Most modern key fobs are powered by a CR2032 three-volt battery that is readily available in a wide range of stores. The majority of these batteries are marked with the size on one of the fob's edges. You can identify the type of battery your vehicle requires by searching for the brand name.

Examine the case to ensure that there is nothing blocking the operation of the key fob. Utilize tweezers to remove the case and remove the battery, however, do not remove the circuit board or antennas. These have electric current running through them that keep the key fob programmed to your vehicle, and should you disrupt these circuits, you'll need visit a dealer or an Interstate All Battery Center location to reprogram it.
After you have replaced and removed your battery, it is an ideal idea to dry the key fob out by putting it in the bag of a plastic bag with silica gel packets. This will help prevent future issues with moisture and will help the battery last longer.
If the fob doesn't work, you can visit a dealership or an independent shop, that specializes in the model and make of your vehicle. They can re-program the key fob for your vehicle, and hopefully restore the function to its original state.

Check the Connections
Your key fob may not function, even though it is still programmed for your vehicle. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including broken battery terminal buttons or contacts. You may be able solve the issue yourself by performing a simple maintenance.
The first thing you have to ensure is that your backup remote can lock and unlock the doors of your car. If it does then there could be a problem in your main remote. If you're still having trouble doing it, try replacing the batteries in your backup remote.

Be careful when inserting a new CR 2032 3V battery, making sure that it's placed with the negative side facing down. After you have reinserted the board, you can reassemble your key fob.
If this does not resolve the problem, you may have a larger issue. In this instance you'll need to either call your dealer or an independent service shop that is specialized in the make of your vehicle. They can pinpoint the issue by using a radio frequency tester, which is a device that determines whether or not your key fob is transmitting an indication to the computer in your car.
